Campus Jury Prize for classical guitar goes to Mario Rubano

The inaugural Oasis Guitar Jury Prize at the SUNY Fredonia School of Music has been awarded to Mario Rubano, a Pennsylvania native pursuing degrees in Classical Guitar Performance and Music Therapy along with a minor in Psychology. The Oasis Guitar Jury Prize, the first scholarship at SUNY Fredonia designated for Classical Guitar students, was launched by Dave Hepple, founder of Oasis, Inc., creator of the Oasis Guitar humidifier and humidifiers for other string instruments.

Hail, Freedonia! The Marx Brothers Tradition Continues...

“Freedonia Marxonia,” SUNY Fredonia’s long-standing Marx Brothers Film Festival and Symposium, returns Saturday, Nov. 5, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the lobby of the University Commons on campus. The event is once again free and open to the public. The 2011 festival will feature Marx Brothers movies, the traditional group photo at 1:30 p.m. of all participants wearing “Groucho” glasses, followed by judging of a Marx Brothers look-alike contest and an art contest.

Campus to honor veterans, award new scholarships

SUNY Fredonia will hold its annual memorial service for U.S. veterans on Friday, Nov. 4. The ceremony will take place at 3:30 p.m. at the Cranston Marché in the University Commons. The event will provide a forum through which university and community members can gather to remember, honor and show their gratitude for the 23.4 million living men and women, and the generations before them, who fought to protect freedom and democracy through the many branches of the Armed Forces.

Faculty and staff asked to join community of donors

Through the annual All-Campus Appeal, the Fredonia College Foundation makes a special effort to draw in needed support from faculty and staff to help maintain and expand SUNY Fredonia's excellence. Employees will receive information in their campus mail on how to contribute through a payroll deduction or cash contribution.

Fredonia College Foundation names junior Meagan Allers to board

A commitment to become fully engaged in campus life has elevated Meagan Allers, a childhood education junior, to a seat on the board of the Fredonia College Foundation, where she will represent the student body. Service to non-profits is an Allers’ family tradition. “Both of my parents are on different non-profit boards, so I became involved with community service at a young age,” Allers explained.

Students invited to apply for Phonathon jobs

The Fredonia College Foundation will be hiring students to staff its annual fundraising appeal by making calls to potential donors this fall and spring. The Phonathon callers are expected to work two or three nights a week between Sunday through Thursday evenings during the months of October, November, February, March, and April. Students can download the application online. The deadline to apply is September 12.

Foundation to present Distinguished Service Awards at black-tie gala May 7

The Distinguished Service Award, the most prestigious honor given by the Fredonia College Foundation, will be presented to James and Carol Boltz, R. Bard Schaack and U.S. Rep. Brian Higgins at a special dinner/dance on Saturday, May 7, at the Williams Center. Reservations are still being accepted through Friday, April 29, by calling 673-3321.
