Women did make some gains in the 1990s, but the numbers have begun to drop off again – despite the focus on STEM disciplines (Science Technology, Engineering and Math), Debbie said.

Fredonia was a good fit for her. The Department of Mathematical Sciences has always been a close-knit group, and Diane thrived in its nurturing, non-competitive environment.

But it took only one campus visit, an informal meeting with a School of Business professor and a Keeper of the Dream Scholarship to make Fredonia her first choice.
