Career information in gerontology to be presented Tuesday

Information on one of the fastest-growing service career sectors in the U.S. will be available to SUNY Fredonia students at “Spotlight on Aging and Gerontology” on Tuesday, March 11, at 5:30 p.m. in Williams Center Room S204D. Professionals from a variety of organizations that serve older populations will be available to meet with students at the mixer, which follows the Job & Internship Expo taking place that afternoon in the Multipurpose Room.

Italian Club to celebrate St. Joseph's Day

The SUNY Fredonia Italian club will be hosting a St. Joseph’s Day dinner on March 30 at 7 p.m. in the Williams Center Horizon Room. The celebration, which is open to students, faculty, and staff, costs $16.88 per person, and all reservations must be made by March 14.

Divers Keller, Carlson, Haley earn trips to NCAA nationals

Fredonia senior Ashley Keller (Lockport, N.Y.) won both the NCAA Division III regional 3-meter and 1-meter championships this weekend at Rochester Institute of Technology, and will be once again representing the Blue Devils at the national meet in Indianapolis from March 19-22. Fredonia's Arron Carlson (LeRoy, N.Y.), who scored 478.1 points to win his 3-meter event in his freshmen year, will be joining her, after winning the men's regional qualifier Friday, as will senior Katelyn Haley (Canandaigua), who finished third in the 3-meter event.

Rosa Parks Scholarship program celebrates recipients and anniversary on March 4

Three students who have won Rosa Parks Scholarships will be honored at the 25th annual Rosa Parks Scholarship and Presentation ceremony on Tuesday, March 4, at 4 p.m. at the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. Recipients of the scholarship include Ken Clause, a senior from Lockport majoring in Drawing and Painting; Melissa Guida, a junior from Fishkill majoring in Psychology and Criminal Justice; and Arielys Mendoza, a freshman from the Bronx majoring in Cooperative Engineering.

Ashley Keller repeats as SUNYAC's top diver

Fredonia's springboard diving dominance at the conference level continued at the SUNYAC Swimming & Diving championship held this weekend. Senior Ashley Keller (Lockport, N.Y.) was named Female Diver of the Meet for the second straight year, while teammates Katelyn Haley (Canandaigua), Heather Colby (Oswego) and Breena Cogliandro (Penfield) finished second, third and fifth, respectively.

Mainstage Series to feature Fredonia Dance Ensemble

Local audiences will have the opportunity to experience a wide range of dance styles in an evening of grace and beauty when the Fredonia Dance Ensemble presents its annual concert from Feb. 21 to 23 in Marvel Theatre. Performances are planned for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21 and Saturday, Feb. 22 with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Feb. 23.

Hebert named to 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® Team

Women's basketball standout Becky Hebert (Hilton, N.Y.) was named today to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America ® team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. She is one of just of 15 women to be selected nationally from the eight NCAA Division III regions.

Comics coming to campus Feb. 19

Judah Friedlander, proclaimed by “30 Rock” creator and co-star Tina Fey as “one of the all-time greatest weirdos,” will treat local audiences to his engaging and crowd-pleasing stand-up humor at King Concert Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 8 p.m. Also appearing are comedians Jermaine Fowler and Kevin Barnett, who can be seen on shows such as MTV's "Guy Code" and "College Humor." The event is sponsored by the Student Association and is suggested for mature audiences.
