The New Horizons Band of Western New York will present its Spring Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, at King Concert Hall. The public is invited to attend the free concert.
The Fredonia 19th Annual Student Research and Creativity Exposition will be held on Thursday, April 27 in the Williams Center. There will be student posters on display, and oral presentations and performances will be taking place throughout the day. The keynote speaker will be Courtney Wigdahl-Perry, assistant professor in the Department of Biology.
The National Geographic photography duo of David Doubilet and Jennifer Hayes, who create visual voices for the world’s oceans, will deliver Fredonia’s Earth Month Keynote Address on Monday, April 3, at 10 a.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. Their talk, sponsored by the Division of Finance and Administration, is free and open to the public.
The observatory atop the Science Center at Fredonia will treat visitors to free celestial shows on Wednesdays, beginning April 5. Tours of the night sky and multiple opportunities to gaze at celestial objects through the telescope will be offered at public observing sessions that the Department of Physics is hosting each week.
The inaugural “Stars and Strikes,” a bowling fundraiser to sponsor a service dog for a deserving veteran through Western New York Heroes, will be hosted by the Fredonia Student Veterans Club on Saturday, April 22, 4 to 7 p.m., at Lucky Lanes, 10387 Bennett Road, Fredonia. Western New York Heroes is a not-for-profit organization assisting disabled and financially challenged veterans, their dependents and the widows and children of deceased veterans.
Following the success of its 2016 autism awareness event and launch of the single, “Not So Different,” HAIL! Fredonia records plans a second event in April with a “Lend a Paw” dog walk.The event is slated for Sunday, April 23 beginning at 1 p.m. on the Fredonia campus. Students, faculty, and townspeople are encouraged to bring their dogs and participate in the event. Participants are not required to bring a dog in order to walk and support the cause.
Harry Potter, the wildly popular fantasy novel series by J.K. Rowling, will be in the spotlight at the 17th annual Math and Science Challenge at Fredonia on Friday, May 19, just one week after the university extended best wishes to the Class of 2017. The Department of Mathematical Sciences, which hosts the program, applied a math twist to this year’s theme and came up with Harry ‘Pi’ tter, or “Harry πtter.”
The Commencement Eve Pops tradition continues at Rockefeller Arts Center – and this year’s edition is truly something to get jazzed up about. “Commencement Eve Pops with New York Voices” will be presented on Friday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall. In addition to the GRAMMY Award-winning New York Voices, the concert features talented student ensembles – The Fredonia Voices and The Fredonia Jazz Ensemble.
