Internationally renowned artists Nicholas Kahn and Richard Selesnick will share their experience as artists as it relates to the business world at the Arts and Business Luncheon Series to be hosted by the Fredonia Technology Incubator on Friday, Sept. 16, at noon.
The campus and community are invited to attend a jazz tribute to retiring Director of Jazz Studies and baritone saxophone player Bruce Johnstone on Sunday, May 8, at 7 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. The Fredonia Jazz Ensemble, directed by Zach Bushe, and the Fredonia Big Band, directed by Mike Massaro, will be featured.
A Commencement eve tradition marches on when Rockefeller Arts Center presents a Tony Award-winning musical comedy about a con man posing as a marching band director in an effort to swindle the residents of a sleepy Midwestern town. “The Music Man in Concert” will be presented on Friday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall.
The Fredonia Wind Ensemble is hosting the New Horizons Band of Western New York, conducted by Dr. Katherine Levy, with the All College Band, College Symphony, Concert Band, and Wind Symphony brass as the groups conclude their performance year, on Friday, April 15 at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall.
The Fredonia Department of Theatre and Dance concludes its 2015-16 Walter Gloor Mainstage Series in with six performances of a classic children’s fantasy piece that has all-ages appeal. “James and the Giant Peach” will be presented on April 22, 23, 28, 29 and 30 at 7:30 p.m. and April 24 at 2 p.m. in Bartlett Theatre.
The 26th annual Fredonia Summer Music Festival will be held from Sunday, June 26 through Saturday, July 2. The festival continues its tradition of excellence with the Honors Solo Vocal Camp for students interested in further developing their skills as a solo classical vocalist. The registration deadline is Monday, May 16.
On Tuesday, April 12, Wade Davis, a former Explorer-in-Residence at the National Geographic Society, will deliver the Maytum Convocation Lecture, “The Wayfinders: Why Ancient Wisdom Matters in a Modern World.” The 3 p.m. lecture in King Concert Hall is free and open to the public, but tickets are required and available in the Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center.
The Sea Chanters, the official chorus of the U.S Navy from Washington, D.C., will perform a free concert at King Concert Hall on Wednesday, April 6, at 7:30 p.m. The 20-voice chorus, accompanied by a three-piece rhythm section, will perform a variety of styles ranging from patriotic selections to Broadway showstoppers.
Fredonia alumnus and GRAMMY award-winning teacher-musician Kent Knappenberger will be joining Fredonia performers and friends for a concert benefiting the Knappenberger Scholarship, on Thursday, May 5 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. All proceeds from the event will benefit the scholarship, established through the Fredonia College Foundation.
The Western New York Chamber Orchestra (WNYCO), a professional ensemble-in-residence at Fredonia, will feature guest violin soloists Michael and Rachael Ludwig in its “Chords and Cords” concert on Sunday, April 3, at 4 p.m. in King Concert Hall. The Ludwigs will perform J.S. Bach’s famous Concerto for 2 Violins in D minor, BWV 1043, as well as a work composed by WNYCO Artistic Director Glen Cortese.
