Fredonia Dance Ensemble concert event April 8 to 10

The Fredonia Dance Ensemble has a well-earned reputation for entertaining audiences by displaying the diversity, beauty and strength of dance. The ensemble will build upon that reputation again this season with its annual concert from April 8 to 10 in Marvel Theatre.

Vonnegut artistic collaborator to give two presentations

Joel Cohen, one of Kurt Vonnegut's artistic colleagues, will give two presentations at Fredonia on Wednesday, March 30. "Kurt Vonnegut's 1978 Fredonia Commencement Speech: Tralfamadorian Beads of Amber" will be held from noon to 1:10 p.m. in Williams Center Room S204. From 3 to 4 p.m., Mr. Cohen will give an interactive presentation, "Mail Art, Ragged Edge Press, and Social Change," in Fenton Hall Room 127.

Philadelphia concertmaster to give master class

Concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra since 1999, violinist David Kim will work with members of the Fredonia violin studio in a master class setting on Thursday, March 31 at 2 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.

The Fredonia Masterworks Chorus and Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra to perform ‘St. Matthew Passion’ on March 9

The Fredonia School of Music joins forces with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra to present J.S. Bach’s masterwork, “St. Matthew Passion,” featuring the Fredonia Masterworks Chorus, the Chautauqua Youth Senior Chorus and the Chancel Choir of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Buffalo. The performance is slated for Wednesday, March 9, at 7 p.m. in King Concert Hall.

Ethos presents NewSound Festival of concerts, recitals and more

The 16th annual NewSound Festival will take center stage at Fredonia this spring. Hosted by the Ethos New Music Society, the festival will focus on contemporary performances and hold nine events featuring performers and composers including three Student Composer Concerts and six special guests: A/B Duo, Decho Ensemble, Acropolis Quintet, Jonathan Newman, Roomful of Teeth and Jennifer Higdon.

GRAMMY-winning vocal ensemble, Roomful of Teeth, to perform

Fredonia’s Ethos New Music Society will be hosting a performance by Roomful of Teeth, a GRAMMY-winning vocal project dedicated to mining the expressive potential of the human voice, on Tuesday, March 15 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. As part of its residency, the group will also give a free lecture on Monday, March 14 at 7 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room.

Concert version of ‘Man of La Mancha’ to be presented Feb. 7

It will be a “Super Bowl” for the arts as Musical Theatre students team up with the Western New York Chamber Orchestra for a concert version of the hit Broadway musical “Man of La Mancha.” The special event, which is a collaborative project of WNYCO and the Department of Theatre and Dance, is slated for Sunday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. in King Concert Hall.
