The annual Fall String Festival will feature two guest artists, violinist Sibbi Bernhardsson and violist Masumi Per Rostad, formerly of the internationally renowned Pacifica Quartet, for a master class and public recital on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Some have starred on Broadway, others have toured the world with award-winning musical acts and some have found success on television. What they all have in common is they got their start at Fredonia – and they are all returning for Rockefeller Arts Center’s 50th anniversary celebration.
The world-renowned Sō Percussion, an ensemble that creates and presents new collaborative works, will perform a public concert at Rosch Recital Hall on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 8 p.m.
“Women’s Voices,” a program featuring ground-breaking music for cello and piano written by women, will be performed by The Ekstasis Duo, two members of the Fredonia School of Music, on Friday, Sept. 20, at 8 p.m.
Applications are now being accepted for the Claudette Sorel Piano Competition, open to young artists ages 15 to 18 and offering a top cash award of $2,500, at Fredonia. New to the annual competition, now in its fourth year at the Fredonia School of Music, is the Piano Fellows program, designed for talented pianists, ages 15 to 18.
Jill Reese, associate professor of Music Education at Fredonia, has released her book, “Navigating Music Learning Theory: A Guide for General Music Teachers,” through GIA Publications, one of the top publishers for resources in music education.
The Castleman Quartet Program, a summertime fixture at Fredonia for over a decade, is attracting to an ever-growing number of international students to campus. What’s notable about this year’s class are five international students who are in the United States for the first time. The program had no international students when it arrived at Fredonia 12 years ago.
William Jenney, a junior Music Education major from Elma, was awarded the Oasis Guitar Jury Prize, a $500 cash award that recognizes the guitar student who exhibits the greatest improvement over the course of a semester, at Fredonia.
It’s all in the Fredonia family as the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra presents “Carmen in Concert” on June 1 and 2 at Kleinhans Music Hall, as part of the M&T Bank Classics Series.
The Commencement-eve Pops tradition continues at Fredonia with a musical considered “the standard by which all other musicals are measured.” Rockefeller Arts Center presents Lerner and Loewe’s “My Fair Lady in Concert” on Friday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m., in King Concert Hall.
