Opera star Susanne Mentzer will arrive for an opera theatre residency this week. Mentzer has appeared with nearly all the major opera companies, orchestras and festivals of North and South America, Europe and Japan. For over 20 years she has sung leading roles at the Metropolitan Opera.

Leigh Howard Stevens, Hall of Fame marimba player, will perform in Rosch Recital Hall on Monday, Jan. 23, at 8 p.m.. He will give a master class prior to that at 4 p.m. in Mason Hall Room 1080. Hailed by TIME Magazine as “the world’s greatest classical marimbist,”Leigh Howard Stevens will perform repertoire that ranges from the Preludes and Fugues of J. S. Bach to original marimba works written expressly for him.
The inaugural Oasis Guitar Jury Prize at the SUNY Fredonia School of Music has been awarded to Mario Rubano, a Pennsylvania native pursuing degrees in Classical Guitar Performance and Music Therapy along with a minor in Psychology. The Oasis Guitar Jury Prize, the first scholarship at SUNY Fredonia designated for Classical Guitar students, was launched by Dave Hepple, founder of Oasis, Inc., creator of the Oasis Guitar humidifier and humidifiers for other string instruments.
