The Office of Student Creative Activity and Research (OSCAR) will proudly welcome student exhibitors and presenters as it hosts its 15th annual Student Research and Creativity Exposition. expo now features a wider scope of research and creative work of students involved in science, visual art, dance, music, humanities, business, education and volunteer work. Approximately 400 undergraduate and graduate students will be participating.
The Fredonia School of Music departments of Music History, Theory and Composition are hosting a lecture by Dr. Melina Esse of the Eastman School of Music on Friday, April 26, at 4 p.m., in Mason Hall Room 2140. Her talk is titled, "History Repeating Itself: Poetic Improvisation and Embodied Memory in Early 19th Century Italy."
The Al Dunn Day of Poetry and Prose, which benefits the Albert A. Dunn Memorial Scholarship Endowment and Book Grants given to English majors, will be held Wednesday, April 24, in the Williams Center Room S204, from noon to 4:30 p.m. The event is now in its fifth year, coordinator Heather McKeever, associate director of development, said.
Dods Hall Dodgeball -- say that 10 times fast! WNYF-TV will host a dodgeball tournament this Saturday, April 27, in Dods Hall Gym at noon. The 14th annual President’s Awards for Excellence and Service Recognition Luncheon -- and first under Virginia Horvath -- will be held on Tuesday, April 23, at noon, at the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. Recipients of the 2013 President’s Awards for Excellence are Joseph Baxter, network security administrator, ITS; Darlene Burchett, janitor, Facilities Services; Patricia Feraldi, director, Alumni Affairs; and Dr. Keary Howard, professor, Mathematical Sciences.
U.S. Rep. Brian Higgins will be the featured speaker at SUNY Fredonia’s 2013 Commencement, slated for Saturday, May 18. Two ceremonies combining bachelors, master’s and advanced certificate graduates will be held at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the university’s Steele Hall arena.
The Fredonia School of Music will present the fifth annual Masterworks Scholarship Benefit Concert on Sunday, April 28 at 4 p.m. in King Concert Hall. The Fredonia College Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. David Rudge, will be joined by the 100-plus voices of the Fredonia Masterworks Chorus.
The Criminal Justice Club is hosting a discussion with Rev. Geraldine Buckley, former chaplain for Maryland's largest men's medium security corrections facility, on Thursday April, 25 at 7 p.m. in 105 Fenton. Buckley will relate experiences and answer questions about such issues as negotiating tensions and keeping harmony within a prison among the inmates and staff members.
The New Horizons Band of Western New York will present a spring concert at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, in King Concert Hall. Dr. Katherine Levy and John Krestic will conduct.
