The Henry C. Youngerman Center for Communication Disorders will offer two monthly support group meetings for stroke and head injury survivors and family members during the summer, on Tuesday, June 19 and July 17, from 3 to 4 p.m., in Thompson Hall Room E148.
SUNY invites students, faculty, and staff to march in the New York City Pride Parade on Sunday, June 24. All members of the SUNY community from all 64 campuses across New York State are welcome to attend and be a part of the largest pride celebration in the world.
Three Fredonia faculty and staff were honored for special contributions to the campus community, and service and retirees were also singled out for the spotlight, at the twelfth President’s Recognition Luncheon in the Williams Center.
Senior Valerie Andryshak, a graduating transfer student, was awarded a $5,000 scholarship from Tau Sigma Honor Society, the national honor society for transfer students, in celebration of her academic and civic contributions. It is the largest scholarship awarded annually by the national organization.
Dr. Andrea Zevenbergen of the Department of Psychology is one of 15 faculty members throughout the entire SUNY system to be recently promoted to the Distinguished Faculty Ranks by the State University of New York Board of Trustees.
Beginning as a youngster, when he listened to his grandfather speaking German to friends on the telephone, Zachary Jones was always intrigued – even fascinated – by foreign languages and cultures where they live. Now, on the eve of receiving a B.A. in French Adolescence Education, Mr. Jones, of Grand Island, has received a Fulbright U.S. Student Program award.
Their academic concentrations are varied – spanning science, performing arts and foreign languages – but Zachary Jones, Brittany Sanford and Kerri Williamson share a very prestigious honor at Fredonia. All three are recipients of the 2018 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence.
Laurie Tramuta, an adjunct lecturer of Voice in the School of Music since 1999 and a Fredonia alumna of the Class of 1982, is the recipient of the 2018 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching.
New research at the State University of New York at Fredonia into bottled water is garnering international attention. The research — led by Dr. Sherri Mason, a professor of chemistry and chair of the Department of Geology and Environmental Sciences — found microscopic particles of plastic (microplastics) in nearly all major brands of bottled water.
Fredonia Radio Systems (FRS) holds on to its title as “Best College Station in the Nation” after being recognized at the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System’s 78th annual conference in New York City on March 3. For the second year in a row, FRS, a student organization operating under WDVL-CL 89.5 and WCVF 88.9 FM, was awarded the Abraham and Borst Award as the “Best College Station in the Nation.”
