Double Reed Day, an enriching experience that allows middle and high school oboists and bassoonists to spend a day working with double reed faculty at the Fredonia’s School of Music in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere, will be held on Oct. 15.
An evening of J.S. Bach’s exquisite choral music will be presented on Sunday, Nov. 26, at 8 p.m., to celebrate the life and work of Dr. Gerald Gray of the School of Music, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 11 Day St., Fredonia. School of Music faculty, alumni, current students and visiting Baroque specialists will join together to honor the memory of Dr. Gray, who passed away on Oct. 15.
Four ensembles in the School of Music will present an unforgettable evening of holiday choral music, appropriate for all ages, on Sunday, Dec. 3, at 8 p.m., in King Concert Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.
The “Nearly World Famous” DuffleBag Theatre returns to Fredonia with a unique take on a holiday classic. “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,” will be presented on Friday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. in Marvel Theatre as part of Rockefeller Arts Center’s Kaleidoscope Family Series.
An opening reception for a new art exhibition that showcases America’s national parks, exotic beaches and world destinations – as well as local landscapes – will be held at the Fredonia Technology Incubator, 214 Central Ave., Dunkirk, on Wednesday, June 7, from 4 to 6 p.m. The incubator’s inaugural summer exhibition will present approximately 50 paintings, photographs and works of art on paper by 11 members of the North Shore Arts Alliance.
With an original take on holiday music, five-man a cappella group Rockapella will be featured in the annual Christmas pops concert. Rockefeller Arts Center presents “A Rockapella Christmas,” on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 4 p.m. in King Concert Hall.
Two rising New York City theatre artists, Jessica Kahkoska and Rebekah Allen, have been named as recipients of the 2017-2018 Marion International Fellowship for the Visual and Performing Arts for “The Untitled Agent 355 Project,” a rock musical theatre exploration of the mysterious female member of the Culper Spy Ring during the American Revolutionary War.
Fredonia’s School of Music will offer three major events of interest to music educators -- at virtually all levels of instruction -- on consecutive weekends, beginning with the Western New York Orff Schulwerk Association Workshop "Read, Sing, and Dance with Patrick Ware" on Saturday, Sept. 16.
Three early childhood classes will be offered beginning in September by "Pathways to Music," a program of the Fredonia School of Music that provides an exciting opportunity for children and parents to discover the joy of music while singing, moving, listening, and dancing, at the Campus and Community Children’s Center.
A Tony Award-winning Broadway hit will be the first offering in the 2017-18 Walter Gloor Mainstage Series. The Department of Theatre and Dance presents six performances of “Peter and the Starcatcher” from Oct. 20 to 28 in Marvel Theatre.
