“Dog gone funny” may be the best way to describe the next offering in the Kaleidoscope Family Series. Rockefeller Arts Center will present two performances of “Mutts Gone Nuts!” as part of its popular family series. Show times are 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4 in Marvel Theatre.
The School of Music will bring acclaimed University of Toronto conductor Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt to campus for its seventh annual Intercollegiate Choral Festival to be held on Saturday, Feb. 18, 4 p.m., in King Concert Hall. Each year, the festival brings an accomplished guest conductor and visiting collegiate choir to Fredonia for choral workshops with Fredonia's College Choir, Chamber Choir and Women's Choir.
Judith Ivey, a Tony Award-winning actress and veteran stage director, will conduct a series of master classes with Fredonia theatre students on Wednesday through Friday, March 22-24. Ms. Ivey will also be on stage for “Conversations with Judith Ivey,” a program of conversation and introspection hosted by her brother, Fredonia Theatre Professor James Ivey, at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House.
An exhibition of paintings and illustrations by Raymond Bonilla, a nationally recognized artist and member of the faculty in the Department of Visual Arts and New Media, will be held at the Fredonia Technology Incubator. An artist’s reception will be held on Wednesday, March 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the incubator’s gallery.
The Fredonia College Symphony joins forces with the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus, under the direction of Dr. David Rudge, for Brahms' profoundly moving, Ein Deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem), on Saturday, March 4, at 8 p.m., in King Concert Hall. The performance also includes Richard Danielpour's two-movement work, “Celestial Night.”
Registration has begun for Pathways to Music, a unique series of classes offered by the Fredonia School of Music that provide opportunities for children and parents to discover the joy of music together through singing, moving, listening and dancing. Ten weekly sessions, beginning in February at the Campus and Community Children’s Center, help to improve language, motor, creative and social skills.

A concert honoring Roland Dyens, a world-class guitarist, composer and teacher ̶ and generous friend of Fredonia’s Guitar program ̶ will be held on Thursday, March 23, 8 p.m., in Rosch Recital Hall. Mr. Dyens’ unexpected passing in late 2016 shocked the classical guitar community that had regarded him as one of its most creative, inspiring and vivacious free spirits.
Members of the Student Opera Theatre Association will be featuring opera scenes in performances on Friday, March 3, at 7 p.m., and March 4 and 5 at 2 p.m., at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House.
The Fredonia School of Music has announced Jimmy Berger and Raymond Feng as the winners of the inaugural Claudette Sorel Piano Competition, held in the Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall on Feb. 26. Ten finalists were selected from a group of talented young pianists.
