Spontaneous Productions is celebrating its eighth year with another “on the fly” event. Once every semester, Spontaneous Productions recruits actors, writers, directors, and technicians who collaborate to write, rehearse, and perform original one-act plays in the span of just 24 hours.
The inaugural Claudette Sorel Piano Competition, an event designed to celebrate the creativity and excellence of young pianists, will be held by the School of Music in February 2017. The application deadline has been extended to Jan. 22. Named in honor of the late SUNY Distinguished Professor and Fredonia Professor Emeritus Claudette Sorel, the competition is generously supported by the Sorel Organization and offers a $2,500 cash first prize and $1,500 in additional prize money.
Registration is underway for the second annual Fredonia Bass Fest on Saturday, Feb. 11, a day devoted to performances and classes for double bass players of all levels – professional, college, high school, teacher and adult learner – at the Fredonia School of Music. Also part of the event, is a double bass solo competition that will provide performance opportunities, cash prizes, scholarship money and additional prizes to high school players.
The Cathy and Jesse Marion Art Gallery will feature student works with a senior show titled “Taking Off” from Dec. 2 to 9. The exhibition highlights the best works by five graduating seniors in the Department of Visual Arts and New Media including Dylan Scacchetti, Alexandro Galiber, Kaitlin Padlo, Kara Koehler and Victoria DePalma.
There’s no place like home for the holidays – that is, unless you can manage to take over someone else's abode. That’s the situation that arises in the comedy, “The Man Who Came to Dinner,” the next offering in the Walter Gloor Mainstage Series.
The first performance in the United States of music from “Arctic Song,” a musical written by Denny Laine, a former member of the Moody Blues and Wings and a GRAMMY Award recipient, will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 8 p.m., in Rosch Recital Hall.
The Fredonia Department of Theatre and Dance's extra performance of "Godspell" has sold out. The additional performance was added after the rapid sale of tickets for the original six performances.
Professional photographer Shannon Taggart will discuss her creative work in spiritualistic photography as well as business aspects of her profession, including her perspective as a small business owner, at a presentation on Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Fredonia Technology Incubator.
“SEVEN,” the internationally acclaimed dramatization of global abuses against women, will be presented at Fredonia and Jamestown Community College.
“Poinsettia Pops” will be presented on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall as part of the DFT Communications Series. The Highland Divas, a trio based in New York City, will bring their Celtic vocal stylings to some all-time Christmas classics. Also featured will be the Western New York Chamber Orchestra.
