College Symphony to give final concert; Concerto Competition winner featured

School of Music Concerto Competition winner and clarinetist Tyler Pfalzer will be featured at the College Symphony Orchestra’s final concert of the academic year on Saturday, April 23, 8 p.m., in King Concert Hall. Under the direction of Dr. David Rudge, the orchestra will perform works by Debussy, Janacek, Elgar and renowned American composer Dr. Jennifer Higdon, who will be in residency at Fredonia.

Mainstage Series addresses real-life tragedy with pair of works

The 1998 murder of a college student in Wyoming is the subject of the next two productions in the Walter Gloor Mainstage Series. The Fredonia Department of Theatre and Dance presents “The Laramie Project” and “The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later” from Feb. 25 to March 5 in Bartlett Theatre at Rockefeller Arts Center.

Registration underway for Fredonia’s Playground Drama Camp for children

The red carpet will once again be rolled out for Playground Drama Camp, a fun introduction to theatre and cinematic arts for children, ages 7 to 18, hosted during August by the Department of Theatre and Dance at Fredonia. Three week-long camps will provide rich opportunities for children, who become Playground Players, to explore their interests in the dramatic arts through “on camera” and musical theatre productions.

Sammy Adams to headline Spectrum Entertaiment spring concert

Spectrum Entertainment will present its annual spring concert featuring headliner Sammy Adams with supporting acts Bryce Vine and dev11n in the Steele Hall Fieldhouse on Saturday, April 23. Presale tickets can be purchased at the Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center.

Acclaimed composer Dr. Jennifer Higdon to conduct three-day residency at School of Music

The Ethos New Music Society is bringing Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Jennifer Higdon to the School of Music for a three-day residency, on April 23 to 25, which will feature performances of her music by two student ensembles, as well as a lecture/master class and student lessons. During the College Symphony Orchestra’s concert on Saturday, April 23 at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall, string players will perform “Blue Cathedral,” Dr. Higdon’s signature composition.

Marion Art Gallery to hold exhibition of Fredonia student works

Works created by 12 graduating seniors of the Department of Visual Arts and New Media will be on display in an exhibition opening Friday, April 15 in the Cathy and Jesse Marion Art Gallery. “Untitled 12,” opens with a reception on Friday, April 15 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Wind Ensemble to host the New Horizons Band at April 15 concert

The Fredonia Wind Ensemble is hosting the New Horizons Band of Western New York, conducted by Dr. Katherine Levy, with the All College Band, College Symphony, Concert Band, and Wind Symphony brass as the groups conclude their performance year, on Friday, April 15 at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall.

Children’s concert series concludes April 30

The Musical Journeys Program of the School of Music concludes its 10th season of free concerts designed to appeal to very young children on Saturday, April 30, at the Darwin R. Barker Library in Fredonia. The Fredonia Guitar Quartet will perform half-hour children's concerts with two performances, one at 10:30 a.m. and one at 11:30 a.m.
