Fredonia to host Double Reed Day

Fredonia will host its ninth annual Double Reed Day on Sunday, Oct. 26, at Mason Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. The day is designed specifically for middle and high school oboists and bassoonists to spend time working in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere with Fredonia's double reed faculty and students.

Western New York Chamber Orchestra opens season with Mozart-themed program

The Western New York Chamber Orchestra will open its 2014-15 Classics Series with a Mozart-themed program on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. in King Concert Hall. The “All Amadeus” concert features three pieces including the Piano Concerto in A major K.414 with pianist Dr. Dmitri Nogordovsky of the School of Music faculty.

"NINE" to premiere at Rosch Recital Hall

Distinguished Professor James Piorkowski will present works from his new album, "NINE," on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to hear the complete performance of Professor Piorkowski’s new album of original guitar works, which is slated to be released this fall by Centaur Records.

Student musicians continue to share music with children

Student musicians from The State University of New York at Fredonia School of Music are scheduled to kick off the 9th annual season of the Children’s Concert Series at Dunkirk Free Library at 536 Central Ave. on Saturday, Sept. 27. The first set of free performances will occur at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and will feature the Fredonia World Mallets Ensemble.

Ethos New Music Society to host visit by Mana Saxophone Quartet

Fredonia’s student-run Ethos New Music Society will be hosting a performance by the Mana Saxophone Quartet on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. The concert, which will feature new music from the quartet, will be held in Fredonia’s Rosch Recital Hall with free admission for students and the local community.

Seneca culture highlighted in special dance program at Fredonia

The culture of the Seneca people and the art of dance will come together in September for a special program. Rosy Simas, a Minneapolis-based choreographer, will present two performances of, “We Wait In The Darkness,” in Bartlett Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 19 and 20.

Brass ensemble opens Fredonia pops series with popular film music

Since forming in 2006, Presidio Brass has rocketed to success as the face of a bold new generation in brass entertainment. Their unique sound has become a trademark for the ensemble from San Diego, Calif. The group will present their touring show of Hollywood’s greatest hits, "Sounds of the Cinema," on Friday, Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall.

Kent Knappenberger returns to keynote music education workshop at School of Music

On Saturday, Sept. 13, music educator, Fredonia alumnus and GRAMMY award winner Kent Knappenberger will host a morning filled with workshops and networking opportunities geared towards college students, music educators and the general public. The event will be held in Mason Hall from 8 a.m. to noon. There is no registration and all sessions are free.

Pathways to Music now offering fall classes

Registration is now open for the fall sessions of Pathways to Music, a series of developmentally age-appropriate classes designed to teach the joy of music to children ages 6 months through 5 years old. Classes will begin Sept. 16 and 20 in the gymnasium of the Campus and Community Children’s Center.

Recital of Italian opera works to feature faculty and international guests

Fredonia voice faculty members Julie Newell and Daniel Ihasz, along with guests from the State Conservatory of Music in Pescara Italy, will present a concert highlighting well-known operatic arias and ensembles from the Italian operatic heritage on Friday, Sept. 5 at 8 p.m., in Rosch Recital Hall.
