Arron Carlson swept both diving events and provisionally qualified for the zone meet as the Fredonia men's swimming and diving team opened its 2016-17 season playing host to Niagara University.
Shutout goalkeeping supported by a goal in each half enabled Fredonia to down Oswego, 2-0, in SUNYAC men's soccer Saturday. Freshman goalkeeper Ty Bentham (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) made four saves for his second collegiate shutout.
A one-timer by Ryan Keller (East Aurora/East Aurora) in the 86th minute lifted Fredonia past Buffalo State, 3-2, in a hard-fought SUNYAC men's soccer game at University Stadium. The Blue Devils also earned two points in the Battle by The Lake series with the Bengals to even the score at 2-2.
The Fredonia women's volleyball team defeated R.I.T., 3-2, and Buffalo State, 3-1, on the second day of the Blue Devil Invitational in Dods Hall on Saturday. The Devils improve to 13-7. Next weekend is SUNYAC Pool Play in Oswego, where they will face Buffalo State, Cortland and Oneonta.

For the next 20 years, no other school with men’s track and field teams – save one – would earn the right to pose with the championship banner. That lone exception – the Fredonia Blue Devils.
Fredonia sophomore goalkeeper Kendall Owczarzak (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) has been chosen SUNYAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Owczarzak had two shutouts with 19 saves to lead the Blue Devils to the title of the Fredonia Blue Devil/Clarion Hotel Classic. Her exploits earned her the tournament Most Valuable Player award.
Fredonia women's soccer pitched its second shutout in as many days Saturday, a 1-0 victory over Mount Union for the championship of the 2016 Blue Devil/Clarion Hotel Classic. Sophomore goalkeeper and Classic MVP Kendall Owczarzak (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) made six saves less than 24 hours after making 13 saves in a 1-0 win Friday over Baldwin Wallace. The Blue Devils improved to 2-2-0.
The Fredonia Blue Devils women's tennis team defeated Brockport for the first time in six years, 5-4, at the Steele Hall courts on Saturday. The third doubles team of senior Phoebe Langdon (Syracuse/Westhill) and sophomore Christine Thomas (Ransomville/Niagara Wheatfield) led off with an 8-5 victory.
Bethany College scored just over a minute into the game, but the Fredonia men's soccer team roared back with four unanswered goals and claimed the Johns Hopkins Tournament title on Sunday.
Fredonia's Collin Mulcahy opened his final collegiate men's cross country season with a first-place finish at Saturday's Blue Devil Invitational. The Blue Devils were first in the team scoring with 30 points, 15 points ahead of Gannon.
