Some clutch free-throw shooting and a team effort enabled the Fredonia women's basketball team to slip past the Cortland Red Dragons, 75-71, on Saturday. The Devils improved to 5-1 overall and are off to a 2-0 start in conference play.
In his final Blue Devil Invitational, senior Rafael Santiago (Middletown/ Middletown) closed out the three day event winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive, just ahead of teammate and 2015 NCAA qualifier Arron Carlson (LeRoy/Notre Dame).
Fredonia senior Laura Morrison (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished third in the 3,000 meters and anchored the winning distance medley relay Saturday at the Greg Page Relays held at Cornell. Another member of the relay, sophomore Brittany Feldman (Jamestown), set a school record in an individual event.

"It was a very strong showing for Laura," said Blue Devil head coach Tom Wilson after Morrison covered the 6,000-meter Lake Breeze Golf Course layout in 22:04.8. It was her second-fastest 6K time this season.
