Fredonia's Tom Wilson has been selected 2015 SUNYAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year. It's the first time a Fredonia coach has been selected for the award. Chosen in a vote of his coaching peers, Wilson led the Blue Devils to a second-place finish -- their best team finish since 1998 -- in the conference championship race at Plattsburgh.
Will Baker (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North) won the 100- and 200-yard freestyles when the Fredonia men's swimming and diving team took on Geneseo on Saturday. Swimmers Graham Jones (Buffalo/Kenmore East) and Adam Clouthier (Fairport/Fairport) claimed individual events, and Arron Carlson (LeRoy/Notre Dame) won both the 1- and 3-meter boards.
Registration has begun for the 2016 Fredonia Cheerleading and Dance Competition. The event has been scheduled for Sun., Jan. 24, 2016 at the Steele Hall Fieldhouse.
A pair of all-conference runners led Fredonia to its best finish in nearly 20 years at the SUNYAC Men's Cross Country championship race. On the women’s side, Senior Laura Morrison (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished sixth overall at the 2015 SUNYAC Women's Cross Country championship race.
Will Baker (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North) won the 200- and 100-meter freestyles and Arron Carlson (LeRoy, N.Y./Notre Dame) won both boards at R.I.T on Saturday for the Fredonia men's swimming and diving team. The Tigers claimed the team score, 177-121.
Taylor Bourne (Calgary, Alberta) recorded a hattrick in Fredonia's 7-3 home men's hockey win Saturday over Southern New Hampshire. Luke Rivera (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) added a pair of goals, his first two as a collegian, while Zach White (Taberg, N.Y.), Oskar Gerhardson (Haessleholm, Sweden), and Macenzie McAvoy (Port Colbourne, Ont.) collected two assists each.
After a four-game losing streak in the SUNYAC that put the team's post-season hopes in jeopardy, the Blue Devil women's volleyball team swept the final two games of conference play to earn the sixth seed in the SUNYAC Tournament. The Blue Devils will face No. 3 Oswego in the quarterfinal round of the SUNYAC Tournament on Nov. 6.
Parker Healy (East Aurora) scored late in the second overtime as short-handed Fredonia celebrated Senior Day with a 5-4 SUNYAC home win over New Paltz. Healy settled the ball and scored into a vacated net after New Paltz goalkeeper John Guzzo fell after defending a high cross with 2:16 left in the second overtime. The assist went to Vinny Chimento (Akron, N.Y.), one of four Fredonia seniors playing their final home game.
Sam Rokos (Delanson/ Duanesburg) was a double winner and bested her own school record in the 100-meter IM at Ithaca on Saturday. Meghan Bartlett (Johnstown, N.Y./Johnstown) and Lauren Goeing (Clarence/ Clarence) were also a double winners at the tri-meet. Brockport was the third school to compete at the meet hosted by the Bombers.
