Two of the top volleyball teams in the New York region will match up in Dods Hall this weekend, while the Battle by the Lake rivalry with SUNY Buffalo State will resume for both men's and women's soccer. The Blue Devil Invitational begins Friday evening.
After dropping their first SUNYAC match of the season to New Paltz on Friday, the Blue Devil women's volleyball team rebounded by winning their next two conference matches on Saturday. The team now stands at 2-1 in the SUNYAC, and 14-3 overall.

Fredonia won its home opener on a hot Labor Day afternoon on the refurbished Steele Hall Courts. The Blue Devils (1-1) defeated the Thiel Tomcats, 6-3. Sophomore Chloe Cohen was a double-winner, teaming with junior Halee Dickinson at No. 2 doubles and clinching Fredonia's team win with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles.
There was a lot to like about Fredonia women volleyball's weekend sweep during the Cortland Red Dragon Classic. There was solid play at crunch time, a player milestone, and contributions from newcomers. It all added up to a 4-0 weekend and a 5-0 start to the regular season.
The Blue Devils open up their regular season on Tuesday, Sept. 1 in Meadville, Pa. against Allegheny.
