Applying or Renewing Your U.S. Passport
Students, faculty/staff, and community members that travel abroad must travel with an approved travel document. Citizens of the United States must have a valid U.S. passport to enter other countries; in some cases, student or tourist visas are required to legally enter and reside in other countries. For questions about visas, please contact the Office of International Education.
Passports are currently estimated to take 12 - 18 weeks to arrive, so please give yourself plenty of time to receive your passport prior to travel. In the event of an emergency, applicants are able to expedite their U.S. passport for an additional $60. Expedited passports currently take approximately 6 - 12 weeks to arrive after the application has been submitted.
Students that obtained a passport prior to age 18 and those planning to change their gender markers will need to apply for a new passport. Information on applying for passports can be found below. More information on U.S. passports can be found on the United States Department of State website.

The U.S. State Department allows individuals to select the gender printed on their US passport, regardless of what gender is listed on supporting documents such as birth certificates, previous passports, or state-issued ID. Individuals no longer require medical certification to change the gender marker on their passport.
At this time, individuals may only select M or F as gender markers, but long term plans include adding a gender marker for non-binary, intersex, and non-conforming persons. Applicants wishing to change their gender markers must apply as first-time applicants using form DS-11.
More information is available on the US Department of State website.
