Katelyn is a junior Biology major from Fredonia, NY. She was nominated by her supervisor, Ms. Denise Szalkowski from the President’s Office.

Katelyn is highly involved in the campus and local community, and currently maintains a 3.55 GPA. She is a Fredonia Student Ambassador, a member of Golden Key International Honour Society, Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society, and is a member of several activities including International Club, Biology Club, and plays Intramural Basketball. Katelyn is a student assistant in the President’s Office, is an intern at the Fredonia Animal Hospital, and was a member of the Chautauqua County 4-H for twelve consecutive years. She is a member of the Chautauqua County Trail Riders equestrian group that organizes benefits and assists in trail rides. She works hard to balance her time between being involved on campus and maintaining her responsibilities living on a farm and caring for her animals.

Katelyn says her favorite things about Fredonia are the faculty and staff in the Biology department. She believes every single one of the professors of the department has shown an outstanding passion to help students and prepare them for their future. Katelyn’s second favorite thing about Fredonia is the Learning Center. She says it gives her a chance to meet with classmates and discuss course material with the guidance of a tutor. Katelyn enjoys the unlimited amount of campus involvement and says there is never a day at Fredonia where she is bored.

Katelyn’s goals for the future include graduating in May 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Fredonia with academic honors of Summa Cum Laude. She plans on attending Veterinarian Medical School in the fall of 2010. As a veterinarian, she wants to practice on large animals with an emphasis on dairy cattle and equine sports medicine.
