Katie Hite Named Student of the Month

Katie Hite named Res Life Student of the Month for February

Fredonia’s Department of Residence Life has named Katie Hite as the winner of its Student of the Month Award for February. She is a senior biology major from Lakewood, N.Y., and as of May will become the fifth of her five siblings to earn a Fredonia degree.

Katie has been involved with various organizations on and off campus. She is the president of Fredonia’s Biology Club and a Resident Assistant in the dormitories. She tutors area high school students enrolled in physics and also enjoys intramural sports on-campus.

Katie has applied to several graduate schools and hopes to pursue a career in conservation biology. Her love and appreciation for the natural world gives her hope that, through further education and research, she can help to make a difference.

During her Fredonia career, Katie has been involved with University Choir, Hall Council, Chemistry Club, Figure Skating Club and The Leader, as a staff photographer. In the spring of 2008 she spent a semester studying in Scotland. When she is at home, she volunteers at the Lakewood Memorial Library.

“Everywhere I go on campus, I am always able to recognize a friendly face,” she said. “I feel lucky that I have been able to be a part of the caring group of people at Fredonia and the friendly atmosphere of this campus will be what I miss the most when I graduate.”

She is very grateful to the professors in the Department of Biology for their continuing efforts to assist their students. Ultimately, Katie would like to become a professor to continue and inspire the research and education of future generations.
