Kyle van Schoonhoven, a 2011 SUNY Fredonia graduate and Metropolitan Opera National Council Grand Finals winner, will return to campus to continue his residency as a Williams Visiting Professor at Fredonia.
On Feb. 21, van Schoonhoven was a soloist in a performance of Benjamin Britten’s “War Requiem” in Prague, with members of the Prague Philharmonia, Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Czech Symphony, in a “concert for ending the war in Ukraine.”
On Thursday, March 9, at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall, van Schoonhoven will present a concert with soprano Sarah Cambidge and pianist Dr. Anne Kissel. It has been described as a rare opportunity to hear Richard Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder as well as the Brautgemach (Bridal Chamber) scene from the opera “Lohengrin.”
A second master class of the spring semester, featuring van Schoonhoven with current SUNY Fredonia Voice students, will be offered on Tuesday, April 4, from 4 to 6 p.m., in Rosch.
The master class and concert are free and open to the public.
In April, van Schoonhoven will make his Metropolitan Opera debut as the Messenger in “Aida,” with performances continuing into May.
The Williams Visiting Professorship is made possible through an endowment established through the Fredonia College Foundation.
