Early Voting in New York State

Early voting allows registered New York voters to cast their ballots in person before Election Day. Voting early works much like voting on Election Day: voters privately mark and scan their ballots at an early voting location. You do not need a reason or excuse to vote early.

2026 General Election Early Voting

  • Early voting: October 24–November 1, 2026
  • Election Day: Tuesday, November 3, 2026

Early voting hours and locations are determined by the local county Board of Elections.

Where Do I Vote Early?

Your early voting location may be different from your Election Day polling place. In most of New York State, voters can use any assigned early voting center in their county. New York City uses a different system in which voters are assigned to a particular early voting site.

Use the New York State Voter Lookup to find the early voting locations available to you.

What to Expect When Voting Early

Early voting is similar to voting at your Election Day polling place. You'll check in, receive your ballot, mark your selections privately, and scan your completed ballot. Once you cast an early voting ballot, you have voted in that election and cannot vote again on Election Day.
