These are the types of degrees and certifications conferred by the State University of New York at Fredonia upon the successful completion of various undergraduate and graduate programs.

Undergraduate Degrees

Bachelor of Science (B.S.) 

Conferred for studies in a branch of the sciences. Typically, B.S. degrees have more coursework focused on science, technology and math (logic, reasoning, and quantitative analysis skills). 

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) 

Conferred for studies that typically focus more heavily on the arts, humanities, and social sciences (critical thinking, communication, and holistic learning).

Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.)

Conferred for studies that typically focus on the history, skills, methodology and industries associated with creative and visual arts (such as theatre and dance, film, photography, animation and illustration)

Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed.)

Conferred for education studies which are specialized by area: Early Childhood Education (Birth-grade 2), Childhood Education (grades 1-6), Childhood Inclusive Education (grades 1-6 and students with disabilities).

Bachelor of Music (Mus.B.)

These degrees are as rigid and deep as those obtained at a music conservatory. Concentrations include performance, composition, and/or theory. 

Graduate Degrees

Master of Science (M.S.) 

Conferred for studies in a branch of the sciences. Typically, M.S. degrees have more coursework focused on science, technology and math (logic, reasoning, and quantitative skills).

Master of Arts (M.A.) 

Conferred for studies that typically focus more heavily on the arts, humanities, and social sciences (critical thinking, communication, and holistic learning).

Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.)

Conferred for education studies which can be specialized by area. Fredonia currently offers MS.Ed.degrees in Curriculum and Instruction, Literacy, Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Math.

Master of Music (M.M.)

This degree merges advanced studies in a specialized area (voice, an instrument, composition or conducting) with graduate-level academic studies.

Advanced Certificate (Adv. Crt.)

Advanced certificate programs are designed for professionals who already have graduate certificates or degrees and are already established in their profession, but who want the advanced study to further their career. Fredonia currently offers Advanced Certificates in Educational Leadership, Bilingual Education, and Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
