Jay Teamer (he/him/his) is an active music director, conductor, vocal coach, collaborative pianist, singer, and church musician currently based in Buffalo, NY. Currently serving as Lecturer of Musical Theatre in the Department of Theatre and Dance at The State University of New York - Fredonia, he is an energetic educator who believes in creating opportunities for creatives to grow in their artistic identities. He is passionate about fostering a love for music in people of all ages through the pillars of creativity, exploration, connection, and collaboration.
Teamer holds an M.M. in Vocal Coaching from Oklahoma City University (OCU) and a B.M. in Music Education from Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA). While at OCU, he was an active collaborator in voice lessons and juries, musical theatre classes, masterclasses, and university-sponsored events. He was the conductor of the university’s Chapel Choir in the Fall of 2024 and a long-term choir director of Casady School’s choirs in the Spring of 2025. He also held the Pianist/Organist position at Wesley United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City, OK, in 2023-2025. During his studies at SFA, he performed as a member of the A Cappella Choir, Chamber Singers, Opera Theatre, and the First United Methodist Church Nacogdoches’ Chancel Choir. He was also a collaborative pianist for the choir programs of Nacogdoches Independent School District from 2020-2023. Before his collegiate studies, he was an active performer in band, choir, theatre, and speech, and played a special role in community engagement through the performing arts.
As a rising music director, he holds credits at The Winnipesaukee Playhouse (NH), Ozark Actors Theatre (MO), Kismet Arts Studio and Theatre (OK), Spotlight Acting Academy (OK), Aspire Music Academy (MN), Studio B Performing Arts (TX), Stephen F. Austin State University (TX), University of Central Oklahoma (OK), and Oklahoma City University (OK). He will be the Music Director for SUNY Fredonia’s production of Ruthless! in February 2026 and Irish Classical Theatre Company’s production of Islander in April 2026. Some of his previous music direction credits include: Spamalot, Once on This Island, You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, [title of show], Baby, Alice by Heart, and 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Some of his previous assistant music direction credits include: Sweeney Todd, Anything Goes, The Merry Wives of Windsor, and The Ballad of Baby Doe.
