April RA of the Month honors go to two Fredonians
Two students – Erich Dickey, a third-semester Resident Assistant at Hemingway Hall, and Nyiesha Francis, a fourth-semester Resident Assistant at Chautauqua Hall – have been named Resident Assistants of the Month for April by the Office of Residence Life.
Both nominees helped to plan the Spring Formal “Step into Wonderland.”
Mr. Dickey, a senior from Orchard Park majoring in Adolescence Education: Spanish and Adolescence Education: French, was nominated by Adrian Vega Bautista, who serves as Residence Director of Hemingway Hall.
“Erich has shown a positive and professional attitude around residents and fellow co-workers through the connection he has made with his residents on the third floor and residents around campus and the building,” Mr. Bautista said.
A favorite part of being an RA for Dickey has been “... the impact we have on our residents. To some, we play such a significant role in their daily lives, and I recognize the importance of this. Some of my residents love to tell me some good news that they came across for the day, and other times, perhaps not so good news, however, we always have a great discussion about it!”
Among Dickey’s hobbies are planning events, playing with his cat and watching “The Kardashians” on Hulu. This is his last semester as an RA, as he will do his student teaching in Buffalo and then attend graduate school in the fall of 2023.
Ms. Francis, a junior Criminal Justice major from Queens, was nominated by Kyle Piscitelli, who is Residence Director of Chautauqua Hall, who noted that she “goes above and beyond in that she keeps high visibility within the residence hall, and when ‘Neesh’ identifies something as an issue or a problem, she diverts her full focus into that issue, especially when it is something that can benefit the student body.”
Francis’ favorite part of being an RA is “... connecting with the incoming students and watching them develop their individual identities as they navigate through this new world.” The arts, gaming and binge-watching are among her hobbies.
After graduating from Fredonia, Francis plans to pursue a master’s degree in Forensic Science.
