João Pedro Saldanha, a doctoral student from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, is spending the semester in Fredonia.

Supported by a fellowship from the Brazilian government, he is working on a project for his Ph.D, thesis with Dr. Thomas Hegna in the Department of Geology and Environmental Sciences. While here, João is studying the structure of carapace of modern clam shrimp to help better understand their fossil record.

João arrived in mid-February and will depart at the end of June. He had the opportunity to accompany Dr. Hegna and students on the spring break geology trip to Utah.
