Professor Tai Yi has served as President of the Korea-America Finance Association (KAFA) since November 2025.

Founded in 1991, KAFA is dedicated to advancing scholarship and professional engagement in finance and financial economics. With more than 300 members residing around the world, KAFA provides an international platform for scholars and practitioners to exchange ideas, promote research, and foster professional collaboration.

KAFA’s objectives include promoting research in finance and financial economics; fostering professional communication among finance scholars and practitioners; encouraging collaboration and participation in research initiatives among professionals in academia, government, and industry; and maintaining and strengthening relationships with organizations that share similar academic and professional interests.

Advancing KAFA’s Mission

In support of the objectives, Dr. Yi has been actively engaged in a range of scholarly and professional initiatives during his term as President.

  • Participated in the 2026 Joint Conference with the Allied Korea Finance Associations in Seoul, South Korea. KAFA members received five of the ten Best Paper Awards presented at the conference, highlighting the significant research contributions of KAFA scholars.
  • Served as a moderator at the 2026 Joint Symposium with the Korea Institute of Finance and the Korea Capital Market Institute in June, contributing to scholarly dialogue on important issues in finance and financial markets.
  • Participated in meetings with the Bank of Korea Economic Research Institute and with executives and columnists of Financial News in June. These meetings provided opportunities to strengthen relationships between KAFA and leading financial and research institutions in Korea.
  • Sponsored the KAFA Female Initiative Network, which organized research seminars that provided valuable opportunities for female KAFA members to present and discuss their ongoing research.
  • Supported career-development initiatives for finance students and job-market candidates, including an open forum held in April for students preparing to enter the fall job market and a mock interview session offered in July. These programs helped candidates become familiar with the interview process and strengthen their preparation for the academic and professional job markets.
  • Led the nomination and selection process for the next fiscal year, including the selection of KAFA officers, Board members, and committee members to support the Association’s continued growth and effective governance.

Preparing for KAFA’s Annual Meeting

Department of Business Administration faculty member Yi and the KAFA officers have also begun preparations for the association’s annual meeting, which will be held in conjunction with the 2026 Financial Management Association International Annual Meeting in Tampa, FL, in October. As part of the annual meeting program, KAFA will host and moderate a KAFA Special Session focusing on the Korean financial market, jointly sponsored by the Bank of Korea.

Through the activities, Yi continues to support KAFA’s mission of advancing research, strengthening professional networks, fostering international collaboration, and creating meaningful opportunities for scholars and practitioners in finance and financial economics.
