Drs. Reneta Barneva and Lisa Walters have published a new peer‑reviewed study in the Journal of Applied Business and Economics.
The study examined the dramatic global growth of the esports industry from 2010 to 2024. Their research documented how esports revenue expanded from $60 million to $4.3 billion and how the worldwide audience grew from 5 million to 600 million, with mobile esports emerging as a major driver of engagement during the pandemic years.
The study highlights why esports has become a significant force in digital entertainment and offers insights for businesses, sponsors, and policymakers navigating this rapidly evolving sector. The article was published on March 30 and showcases Fredonia’s growing contributions to analytics and digital media research.
The pair are faculty members in the School of Business.
