The Social Work Club has launched a food drive as food insecurity has become an increasing issue in the area.

Non-perishable food items and hygiene products can be placed in donation boxes located in the Williams Center, University Commons and Thompson Hall (across from the Snack Shack) through Friday, Nov. 21.

“With the recent lapse in SNAP benefits, along with other stressors facing community members, food insecurity has become an even more urgent issue for many, including right here in Fredonia and Dunkirk,” said Assistant Professor Josal Diebold.

The Social Work Club is committed to deepening its engagement with the community and creating meaningful opportunities for students to contribute, Dr. Diebold, of the Department of Social Work and Criminal Justice, explained. As a profession, social work is grounded in meeting basic needs and promoting dignity and well-being, she added.

All donations from the campus will be delivered to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua.
