Department of Communication Associate Professor Mike Igoe received two awards from the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) at its just concluded national conference in Las Vegas, NV.

For a colon cancer public service spot, Mr. Igoe, along with Jim Gibbons, a former videographer on the SUNY Fredonia Marketing and Communications staff, received Best of Festival as well as Best of Commercial or PSA category citations in the Faculty Film and Video Competition.

"I never expected to be the poster boy for colon cancer awareness,” said Igoe, a 21-year-colon cancer survivor. “But I've embraced the role in the hope of saving lives from what is the third most common killing cancer in our country."

BEA reports that it received almost 1,900 submissions in the competition this year.

At the conference, Igoe also presented on a panel that explored effective story telling.
