“Mila Rose,” a work for solo classical guitar written by SUNY Distinguished Professor James Piorkowski, is being edited and prepared for publication by Parisian publisher IMD (International Music Diffusion), which initiated an offer to publish the Piorkowski composition.

Mr. Piorkowski wrote the piece for his youngest granddaughter a few months after she was born while he was on sabbatical leave in Buenos Aires in 2018. It incorporates rhythmic elements of the Argentinian milonga, a style of dance, which commonly has note groupings of 3+3+2 in each measure. “Mila Rose” is expected to be printed and released internationally later this year.

A video showing Piorkowski performing the composition, and featuring photos of his granddaughter, can be viewed online.
