Stephanie Teachman accepts the 2025 Poummit Secretarial Award from President Dr. Stephen H. Kolison Jr.
Stephanie Teachman, who is Administrative Assistant II for the Executive Vice President and Provost’s office, received the Poummit Secretarial Award.
Criteria for the award includes demonstrating an outstanding “Fredonia Attitude,” creativity, and resourcefulness; being a team player; and displaying qualities of personal integrity and leadership.
The nominations for Ms. Teachman noted that she is always prepared and knowledgeable.
“Stephanie always supports and mentors co-workers,” a nominator said. “She is kind to everyone without distinction.”
It was also noted that Teachman is deeply committed to Fredonia.
“Stephanie continually strives to improve SUNY Fredonia,” a nominator wrote.
“Being a Fredonia alum, I care a lot about the success of the campus, the staff, and the students,” Teachman said. “I'm glad to see so many taking an active part in advocating for what works for Fredonia and how we can all make strides towards improvement.”
Teachman is described as incredibly hard working and willing to embrace new challenges, traits which have enabled her to succeed in many different offices on campus.
Teachman began her tenure at Fredonia in 2013 as a clerk in the Human Resources Office. She transferred to Keyboard Specialist I in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 2015 and was promoted to Office Assistant II in Communication Disorders and Sciences in 2016.
A promotion to Secretary I in Computer Information and Sciences followed in 2017 and in 2018, she transferred in the same position in the Office of International Education.
In September of 2021, Teachman was promoted to her current title of Administrative Assistant II in Academic Affairs.
“I enjoy seeing the students and how passionate they are about Fredonia and what is happening on campus,” Teachman said. “It’s nice to be a part of that, even if not directly.”
The Poummit Secretarial Award was established in memory of Janet Marks, who was a secretary in the President’s Office. The annual award, its criteria and endowment were all set up by the late Morris Poummit through the Fredonia College Foundation. Mr. Poummit was a 1933 Fredonia alumnus and served as a member of the Fredonia College Foundation Board of Directors from 1975 to 1985 and as an honorary board member.
