Alicia Klepfer was presented the Barbara Saletta Meritorious Service Award at the annual Fall Administrative Professionals Conference.

The SUNY Fredonia event was held Oct. 3 at the College Lodge.

Ms. Klepfer became a Fredonia employee in June 2017 as an Office Assistant 2 in Accounts Payable and is currently an Office Assistant 3 in the Purchasing Office.

Several people on campus praised Klepfer for her work and leadership abilities, most recently in the transition of the Purchasing office due to a retirement.

A staffer noted, “The nominee is one of those rare colleagues whose presence makes the entire workplace better. She combines knowledge, accuracy, and efficiency with kindness, patience, and a willingness to help anyone who asks. During challenging periods without a Purchasing Director, she held the office together with professionalism and grace, never seeking recognition, only focusing on the work that needed to be done. She is also a true repository of institutional knowledge, offering insight into both university processes and purchasing best practices that benefit the entire campus community. Her contributions may not always be visible outside our office, but they are essential to Fredonia’s success, and she is deeply deserving of this recognition.”

Another person on campus added to the praise, “Though not in a formal leadership position, the nominee leads by example every day. She mentors student workers with patience and care, giving them meaningful responsibilities and the tools to succeed… Her calm, knowledgeable approach inspires confidence, and her willingness to take on extra responsibilities during times of transition shows natural leadership ability.”

Barbara “Barbie” Saletta was a Secretary I in the Information Technology Department when she retired in 2003. The Barbara Saletta Meritorious Award was established through the Fredonia College Foundation by her brothers and sisters (Tom and Diane Everett, Ace Everett, and Sue Enberg) to carry on her legacy. The award is for a secretarial/clerical staff, full or part time, with and outstanding service attitude like Barbie herself. Other criteria for this award include helping others, creativity and resourcefulness, demonstrated team effort, personal integrity, leadership and an enthusiasm for SUNY Fredonia, its mission, and its students.
