In response to an "Unearth A Story" Summer Reading Program theme, kits will be assembled for summer fun.

The theme for the reading program, chosen by the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System, saw Westfield’s Patterson Library Director Megan Hegna, SUNY Fredonia Museum Studies student Derek Healy and Associate Professor Thomas Hegna working together to create paleontologically themed summer reading kits.

Together, Mrs. Hegna and Derek applied for and were awarded a grant to fund the kits from The Blossom Fund at the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. The kits will contain several age-appropriate books, activities, a regionally sourced fossil kit, a 3D printed fossil skull, dinosaur footprint stamps, and a video about how to find fossils in western New York.

In total, 10 kits will be prepared. They will be available for libraries in the region to check out from the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System.
