New York State Senator Sean M. Ryan, a member of the SUNY Fredonia Class of 1987, is the new mayor-elect of the city of Buffalo, NY.
A member of the New York State Senate since 2021, he is currently chair of the Committee on Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business, and a member of several other committees including Banks; Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Disorders; Housing, Construction and Community Development; Internet, Judiciary, Labor, Libraries and State-Native American Relations.
The 61st District Mr. Ryan represents in the senate includes the city of Buffalo, city of Tonawanda, and towns of Amherst, Grand Island and Tonawanda, as well as the villages of Kenmore and Williamsville.
He is a graduate of Brooklyn Law School and previously served for 10 years as a member of the New York State Assembly.
Named to lead his transition team with Marie Cannon is former U.S. Attorney and SUNY Fredonia alumna, the Honorable Trini Ross. He will be sworn in as Mayor on Jan. 1, 2026.
