A campus-wide tribute to Dr. David Stringham will be held Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall.

Reflections, musical performances and shared memories of Dr. Stringham, who led the College of Music, Theatre, and Dance as its dean, will be presented at the memorial service that begins at 5 p.m. A reception will follow.

In the all-too-brief two years he was at SUNY Fredonia, Dr. Stringham, who passed away Nov. 10, brought energy, vision and care every day, said Interim Dean Sarah Hamilton. He successfully integrated the Department of Theatre and Dance with the School of Music and elevated the school’s status to that of a college – the College of Music, Theatre, and Dance.

“He was invested in supporting all students, faculty, and staff, and applauded their successes. He worked tirelessly to create new connections both on campus and out in the world,” said Dr. Hamilton. “His devotion, inventiveness, and humor will all be greatly missed!”

Those who will speak at the service include President Stephen H. Kolison Jr.; Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Andy Karafa; Dr. Christian Bernhard, who is chair of Music Education; Dr. Stephen Shewan, who is director of bands at Williamsville East High School; and Maze Drum, a senior Music Composition major from Hamburg, NY.

The Fredonia Choir, under the leadership of Dr. Vernon Huff, vocalist; David Rose, violist; singer/pianist Lucas West, a senior Music major from Fairport, NY; and violinist Dr. Emily Schaad will perform.

“As deep as this loss is, I hope we can find some comfort in wonderful memories that he left us, and the good things that he did to help others achieve their dreams,” Dr. Kolison said.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family,” Hamilton said.
