Cancer Awareness Weekend slated for Sept. 8 and 9

The third annual Fredonia Soccer Cancer Awareness Weekend is Sept. 8 and Sept. 9 at University Stadium, also the weekend of the annual Blue Devil Classic. Admission fees will be collected both days and will be added to the proceeds to benefit Team Roswell, the fundraising arm of the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo.

Welcome Week rolls out red carpet to students; Activities Night on Wednesday

What do an ice cream, a popular 3D computer-animated musical fantasy film from Walt Disney Pictures and a block party have in common? They were among a variety of attractions offered during Welcome Week, a popular Fredonia tradition hosted by Spectrum Entertainment Board and sponsored by the Student Association that welcomes students to a new academic year. All events, held during the first week of classes, were free to Fredonia students.

Technology incubator to host reception for North Shore Arts Alliance exhibition

An opening reception for a new art exhibition that showcases America’s national parks, exotic beaches and world destinations – as well as local landscapes – will be held at the Fredonia Technology Incubator, 214 Central Ave., Dunkirk, on Wednesday, June 7, from 4 to 6 p.m. The incubator’s inaugural summer exhibition will present approximately 50 paintings, photographs and works of art on paper by 11 members of the North Shore Arts Alliance.

Incubator to host Entrepreneurial Networking Event

The Fredonia Technology Incubator (FTI) is hosting an Entrepreneurial Networking Event on Thursday, June 8, from 4 to 6 p.m., in the garden terrace outside of the incubator’s large conference room. The evening presents an opportunity for those seeking new business connections, and is free and open to the public. Registration is encouraged, and light refreshments will be provided.

Viewing party planned at Fredonia for August solar eclipse

A solar eclipse viewable from Fredonia is the impetus for a viewing party planned on campus for Monday, Aug. 21, the first day of the fall semester. The Department of Physics will host the party, and will have 1,500 pairs of solar glasses for safe viewing of the sun, as well as two pairs of binoculars set up with solar filters.

Distinguished Service Awards to be presented in June; event includes auction of fine art

On the first weekend of June, the Fredonia College Foundation will be presenting the Distinguished Service Award, the foundation’s most prestigious honor, to a popular volunteer and community advocate, a dedicated State University of New York at Fredonia employee, and an organization vital to the Fredonia campus and community. In addition, the Village of Fredonia will be singled out for special recognition.

Fredonia Dance Ensemble takes the stage from April 28 to 30

Fredonia’s Department of Theatre and Dance presents its 11th annual Fredonia Dance Ensemble concert from April 28 to 30 in Marvel Theatre, with performances by Fredonia’s outstanding young dancers and a wide variety of choreographic offerings from Fredonia’s dance faculty and guest artists.

‘Cultural Explosion’ event set for April 6

The International Student Services office and the Faculty Student Association are hosting the second annual "Cultural Explosion" event on Thursday, April 6, at 6:30 p.m., in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. It is a two-pronged event featuring a cooking competition where student groups compete to have their entree featured in the Cranston Marché, and a talent show.

Fulbright Association to host informational event on campus on April 7

The Western New York/Northwestern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Fulbright Association will present information on Fulbright programs to the Fredonia campus and community on Friday April 7, from 1 to 3 p.m., in the Williams Center Horizon Room. The day’s program has the theme, "Globalization Matters: And You Can Make a Difference," and the keynote speaker is Fredonia Mayor Athanasia Landis.
