The State University of New York at Fredonia is pleased to welcome nearly 50 delegates from other colleges and universities who will help the campus community celebrate the inauguration of Virginia Schaefer Horvath as our 13th president. Confirmation emails were sent to all registered out-of-town delegates on Monday, September 10.
The investiture ceremony will take place on Friday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. in King Concert Hall in the Rockefeller Arts Center. All investiture day activities will take place in this building. Please visit our Inauguration Home Page for information on directions, accommodations and a the Investiture Day parking map. We are reserving the campus roadway known as Symphony Circle, directly in front of Rockefeller Arts Center for out-of-town delegates and handicapped patrons. After you have parked, please proceed to the Cathy and Jessie Marion Art Gallery to check in. Student ambassadors with blue-gray blazers will be available to help guide you.
The light buffet luncheon will be served in the lobby of Marvel Theatre between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.; stop by anytime within this time period. Your spouse or guest, if coming to the ceremony, is also welcome at the luncheon. There is no program at the luncheon. It is a time to relax and visit with Dr. Horvath and other colleagues. Regalia may be placed in the Marvel Theatre coat room while you eat.
Enrobing will take place at 1:15 p.m. in the Alice E. Bartlett Theatre, on the lower level of the arts center. You will be given further instructions about the processional at that time. The ceremony is expected to last between 75 and 90 minutes. All delegates and guests are invited to a reception to be held immediately after the ceremony. In case of rain, the reception will be in the Williams Center, which is shown on the parking map.
We encourage you to stay in your Regalia during the reception as it will be more festive that way. However, you may return to the Bartlett Theatre dressing rooms to take your regalia off if that is your desire.
Please note that although delegates do not need tickets to the Investiture, spouses and guests of delegates WILL need tickets. If you have indicated that you are bringing a guest, we will have your guest ticket ready for pick up when you check in at the Marion Art Gallery. Also, if you ordered any tickets to events earlier in the week, such as the International Inaugural Dinner or either of the lectures, you should receive these tickets in the mail directly from the Ticket Office no later than Friday, September 14. Please contact if you have not received them by then.
Finally, please don't be surprised if you don't see a "Dr." in front of your name in printed Investiture program or "Ph.D." or other initials after. We have adopted the style of listing just the your school's founding date and name and your name and title (President, Provost, etc.; alumna or alumnus, if you are a graduate of the school you are representing.)
If you have questions that are not answered here or on the inauguration web site, please don't hesitate to contact us: inauguration@fredonia.edu or call the President's Office at 716-673-3456.
