Leadership Development Program

Freshman and sophomores are eligible to participate in the Leadership Development Program courses that provide an overview of leadership concepts. Courses for the LDP program are offered each semester. Students who wish to participate in these courses must be nominated by a Fredonia faculty or staff member and fill out an application to participate . Applications for the Leadership Development Program are available in the Campus Life Office, which is located in the Williams Center (G-114). The first course, LEAD101, is geared toward second semester freshmen, and sophomores, with the intent of raising the quality of student leadership and creating a higher quality candidate pool for teaching assistantships, resident assistants, and other paraprofessional positions. This course in the study of leadership will cover introductory theories of leadership, personal assessment, and offers opportunities to develop individual self-discovery and group leadership experience through active learning.

The second course, LEAD201, is geared toward juniors and seniors as well as students who have successfully completed LEAD 101 - Introduction to Leadership. This course introduces the student to tasks, strategies, and skills of effective leadership. Course curriculum will move the student from theory to the practical processes of leadership through the use of experiential learning, oral expression, and effective teamwork on several projects.

Students who wish to pursue a leadership studies minor must complete both LEAD101 and 201 as well as complete an internship experience and course (LEAD490) as part of the core requirement. Completion of the minor requires a minimum of 21 credit hours.
