The Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Leon Lee Dorsey, at a rehearsal.
The acclaimed Fredonia Jazz Orchestra and small jazz ensembles will give a concert on Friday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m.
Dr. Leon Lee Dorsey, who is a lecturer in Jazz and a new faculty member in the College of Music, Theatre, and Dance, will conduct the ensembles at the concert to be presented in the Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall.
The Jazz Orchestra will perform "Sassy," by Alan Ferber; "I Got Rhythm," by George Gershwin; "Ballad for Benny," by Oliver Nelson; "Big Dipper," by Thad Jones, and "Afro Blue" by Mongo Santamaria (arranged by Michael Mossman).
Many Jazz Orchestra musicians also perform in small ensembles, including an organ trio and two smaller groups that will open for the full orchestra. The small ensembles will play classic jazz standards made famous by Miles Davis, Horace Silver and Wayne Shorter.
All Jazz concerts can be livestreamed thanks to a sponsorship with Paramax Corporation of Buffalo, NY, a Diamond Level Sponsor of the 2025-2026 Jazz Series, through the Fredonia College Foundation. The livestream can be accessed here.
The concert is free and open to the public.
