‘De-stress for Success’ slated for finals week

De-stress for Success, a series of events, programs and workshops designed to help students find ways to reduce stress in a healthy, productive manner and gain the focus they need to succeed, will begin on Monday, May 7, and conclude on Friday, May 18. Activities include:

Paws to Relax – Monday and Tuesday, May 14 and 15, from noon to 1 p.m., in Reed Library. Pet and play with certified therapy dogs.

Freeze Pops and Frisbees – Wednesday and Thursday, May 16 and 17, from 11 a.m. to noon, in Reed Library lobby. Relax with free Freeze Pops and Frisbees.

Healthy Bites – Monday through Friday, May 7 to 11 and May 14 to 18. The Student Health Center (LoGrasso Hall) will offer free healthy snacks. Heathy snacks will also be available on Monday and Tuesday, May 14 and 15, from noon to 1 p.m., in Reed Library.

Relaxation Kits – Monday through Friday, May 7 to 11 and May 14 to 18. The Student Health Center (LoGrasso Hall) will offer free relaxation kits.

Stress Free Zone – Monday, May 7 through Thursday, May 17, in Reed Library lobby. Students can take a timeout from a hectic schedule and relax with various stress relieving activities that include coloring, crafts, and games.

Quiet study areas – Reed Library will have extended hours in designated quiet study areas from Sunday, May 6, to Thursday, May 17. During this time, the Reed Library classroom (first floor, Carnahan-Jackson Center) will be available for quiet study in addition to everyday quiet study areas on the second and third floors of the Carnahan-Jackson Center. The Williams Center has designated the Multipurpose Room a quiet study area Monday through Thursday, May 14 to 17, from 9 a.m. to 11:45 p.m., and Friday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Color Me Calm – Monday, May 7, to Thursday, May 17. The Counseling Center (LoGrasso Hall) will offer free coloring kits.

Dino Day – Saturday, May 12, from noon to 2:30 p.m., in the Gregory Hall parking lot. Free dinosaur barbecue. Tickets, available at the Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center, are required. Sponsored by Spectrum.

Fitness classes – The Aerobic Center, located on the lower level of Hemingway Hall, will have a limited schedule of classes available during final exam week. Classes are free and open to all students. See the Facebook page for the class schedule.

De-Stress for Success is sponsored by the Counseling Center, Reed Library, Enrollment and Student Services, Student Health Center, Residence Life, Campus Life and Spectrum.

Artists donate items to raffle to support student medical mission to Honduras

A raffle, featuring items by well-known Fredonia area artists, will be held to raise money to support a student study abroad mission to Honduras. Students enrolled in the 2019 J-term course, Honduras Health Care, taught by Dr. Ted Lee, will conduct medical brigades and do service work at day-long clinics set up in schools or community centers in small rural communities.

Fredonia to host Safe Halloween for area children

The annual Safe Halloween, an event for local children and their parents/guardians, will be held at Fredonia on Sunday, Oct. 28, from 9 a.m. to noon in Mason Hall. Guests are invited to come dressed up and ready for trick-or-treating. Every child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Actress and alumna Mary McDonnell to return to Fredonia on Homecoming Weekend

Fredonia will welcome two-time Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe-nominated actress Mary McDonnell, Fredonia Class of '74, back to campus. She will join Department of Theatre and Dance Associate Professor Jessica Hillman-McCord at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, in Robert W. Marvel Theatre for “An Afternoon with Mary McDonnell,” in what promises to be a lively and informal conversation about the actress’ life and career on the Broadway stage, in film and in television.
