Art gallery exhibition features works by six Fredonia students
Works by six graduating art majors will be on display in the Cathy and Jesse Marion Art Gallery from Dec. 1 to 7.
The Department of Visual Arts and New Media and the gallery are presenting the fall senior exhibition, titled “OFF TRACK.” It opens with a reception on Friday, Dec. 1 from 7 to 9 p.m.
The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public. The Marion Art Gallery is located on the first floor of Rockefeller Arts Center.
“OFF TRACK” includes artwork by six seniors: Ryan Alonge (sculpture), Autumn Fitzpatrick (ceramics), Nicole Goodrow (photography), Amanda Gusmano (graphic design), Leslie Martinez-Garcia (animation/illustration) and Sarah Reimer (graphic design).
Gusmano explained the theme of the exhibition.
“‘OFF TRACK’ follows the truth of our super senior semester, one filled with artists willing to push themselves and their art into a different direction. ‘OFF TRACK’ is both comical to us as a collective group but also resonated with our individual approach to our senior pieces,” she said.
Alonge uses steel branding tools to share the chaotic roller coaster of life with words created by fire and force in a work titled “Cosmic Chaos.”
In her installation “Dinner with Myself,” Fitzpatrick combines porcelain dinnerware with child-like drawings and phrases that have influenced her to represent her journey from adolescence to adulthood.
Goodrow manipulates her photographs of natural landscapes to emphasize non-objective patterns in her exhibition works while Gusmano focuses on “accidental beauty” in her installation “The Curiosity of Letting Go,” which is a collection of different experiments varying in mediums, sizes, shapes, finished and interactions.
Martinez-Garcia explores the nature of reality in her animation “Pareidolia.” With special glasses the main character sees illusions in natural patterns that alter her reality as she searches for her runaway cat in the woods.
Reimer concentrates on the branding of a brewery using German influences, including Grimms fairy tales, in her work.
The senior exhibition is intended as a summation for B.F.A. and B.A. students in the Department of Visual Arts and New Media. It is an opportunity for students from various studio areas to collaborate and bring together their creative work within a critical forum.
“OFF TRACK” is supported by the Department of Visual Arts and New Media, the Fredonia College Foundation’s Cathy and Jesse Marion Endowment Fund and The Friends of Rockefeller Arts Center.
Gallery hours are Tuesday through Thursday from noon to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
