Acclaimed pianist Longendyke to premiere student compositions in Rosch concert

New works by eight SUNY Fredonia student composers will be premiered by pianist Clare Longendyke at a concert that serves as the capstone event to a year-long creative entrepreneurship residency with the ETHOS New Music Society in Rosch Recital Hall on Saturday, March 26, at 8 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Longendyke, based in Indianapolis, is known for dazzling musicianship and colorful interpretations that delight audiences, and is lauded by critics for artistic ferocity that captivates and astonishes audiences.

Graduate students whose works will be performed by Longendyke include:

• Olivia Gwise, candidate for M.M. in Music Composition, B.A. in Music at SUNY Fredonia, of Berkeley, Calif.;
• Connor Swaenepoel, candidate for M.M. in Music Composition, B.M. in Music Composition and B.M. in Music Performance (Tuba) at SUNY Fredonia, of Lake View;
• Kyle Youmans, a candidate for a M.M. in Music Composition at SUNY Fredonia, B.M. at Westminster College, of Sebring, Ohio.

Undergraduate students whose works will be performed by Longendyke include:

• Timothy J. Bartoldus, sophomore, Music Composition major, of Rockville Centre;
• Nicholas Cristoforo, first-year, Music Composition, of Patchogue;
• Wolfgang Scheitinger, Junior, Music Performance and Music Composition, of West Orange, N.J.
• Matt Slazik, senior, Music Composition, of Tully;
• Julienne Tsang, junior, majoring in Music Composition and Music Entrepreneurship, minor in Accounting, of Corning;

A sought-after soloist, Longendyke performs over 50 concerts a year in North America and Europe, and has, over the last decade, premiered over 150 new compositions and performed the music of some of today’s most exciting composers. She has doctorate and master’s degrees from Indiana University’s  Jacobs School of Music and is passionate about helping young creators develop their musical skills and becoming ambassadors of classical and contemporary music.

The student compositions will be premiered alongside works by French composer Claude Debussy and acclaimed living composers Augusta Read Thomas and Amy Williams, among others.
