So large and extensive is the sixth edition of this year’s Student Composer Concert series, presented by Ethos New Music Society and the Fredonia Music Composition Studio in Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall, that it will be performed in two parts.
The chamber group fivebyfive will present a free concert in Rosch Recital Hall on Friday, Feb. 24, at 8 p.m. The recital, "Of Breath & Fire,” features works inspired by glass by composers Amy Nam, Philip Glass, Missy Mazzoli and others.
New works by student composers will be premiered by pianist Clare Longendyke at a concert that serves as the capstone event to a year-long creative entrepreneurship residency with the ETHOS New Music Society on Saturday, March 26.
The student-run Ethos New Music Society will present renowned violinist Jennifer Koh in a virtual residency at Fredonia that will feature two discussions, “Decolonizing Western Music,” on Thursday, April 1, at 6 p.m., and “Creativity in the Time of COVID-19,” Friday, April 2, at 5 p.m.
