Acclaimed violinist Placci to give master class, recital

Markus Placci, professor of Violin at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee who’s been praised for having “a magnificent personality, a superb energy, a total command and an extremely convincing taste,” will lead a master class and give a recital in the School of Music’s Visiting Violin Series at Rosch Recital Hall on Sunday, Feb. 26.

The master class and recital are free and open to the public.

Students chosen to play for Placci in the 1 p.m. master class are: Maia Anna, a sophomore majoring in Music Education, from Hamburg; Marley Crane, a first-year Music Education major, Victor; and Yijun Wu, a junior Music Performance major, Wuhan Shi, China.

Mr. Placci has performed throughout Europe, South America, Asia and the United States in recitals and solo performances with acclaimed symphony orchestras. Winner of the prestigious “XXVI Vittorio Veneto Competition, Placci is also a recipient of numerous other international awards and prizes that include the “Brahms Preis” and “Baden-Baden Philharmonie Foundation-Carl Flesch Preis” in Germany, and the “Jules C. Reiner Violin Prize” at Tanglewood.

An avid chamber musician, Placci has collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma, Gil Shaham and Robert Levin, and his performances have been broadcast on prominent radio stations such as the BBC Radio. He has been on the faculty of The Boston Conservatory since the age of 26, and has been the recipient of the "Outstanding Faculty" award by the Massachusetts chapter of the American String Teachers Association.

Placci plays on an 1871 J. B. Vuillaume violin, a copy of the “Alard” Stradivarius.

At the 4 p.m. recital, Placci will perform works by Paul Hindemith, Scott Wheeler, Kenji Bunch, Jordi Cervelló and Eugène Ysaÿe.
