The Fredonia Pops! Orchestra rehearses for its Oct. 21 concert “A Night at the Movies!"
The abundant musical talent on campus will be highlighted in the next Fredonia Pops! Orchestra concert event.
Almost 100 performers will take part in “A Night at the Movies!” on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall at the State University of New York at Fredonia. The event is free.
Billed as “an evening of cinematic scores, featuring music from your favorite films like ‘La La Land,’ ‘Harry Potter,’ and ‘Star Wars,’” the concert will also feature Fredonia a cappella groups Much More Chill and Some Like It Hot.
Choir Director Brody Brown, a senior Music Education major with a minor in Arts Administration, noted this will be a large-scale event with about 90 performers on stage.
“There are approximately 70 performers in the orchestra. This includes students and community members,” he said. “There are approximately 20 performers in the chorus.”
The concert is free but serves as a benefit event for the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation. Brown said the audience is encouraged to make an at-will donation to the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation via a QR code in the event program.
“I, and the rest of the artistic team, hope that the audience gets an ear worm from listening to some very familiar pieces,” Brown said. “We also hope that it broadens their idea of what a traditional orchestra and chorus can do.”
The Fredonia Pops! Orchestra is an ensemble of the Media Music Collective, a Student Association organization. Aidan Carney is the music and arts director, Alexandria Schuck is the executive director and Dan Raczka is the assistant director.
