Benitez RBI secures Game 1

An RBI ground  out in the bottom of the eighth inning proved to be be the winning run as the Devils defeated Oneonta, 5-4, on Monday. Kenny Ynoa picked up his second win of the season in relief, and Nate O'Brochta got final two outs for the save. The Devils dropped the nightcap, 17-0.

Starting pitcher Kevin Mahon went seven innings giving up three runs and striking out five while getting a no-decision.

The Devils ripped 10 hits, with Johnny Genau and Ryan Hann each collecting a pair. Benitez drove in a pair of runs.

The Devils were trailing 3-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh. Benitez drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Genau and Brian Chatt delivered run-scoring hits to put the Devils up, 4-3. 

Oneonta tied the game in the top of the eight on a solo homerun by Anthony Gonzalez. He ripped the first pitch of the inning over the left-field fence.

In the ninth, Tylor Murphy led off with a walk. Hann sacrificed him to second. AJ Kinney moved Murphy to third with a pinch-hit single. Benitez grounded out to bring home the winning run.

Game 2

The second game was all Oneonta. They scored two runs in the first, and eight in the third. 

Tyler Phillips collected two of the Devils five hits. 

Oneonta now stands at 7-17 overall, and 1-7 in the SUNYAC.

Fredonia State is now 10-12 and 1-7 in conference play. The third game of the series has been postponed.

The Fredonia State men's track and field team had its final tune-up before the SUNYAC meet, taking part in the University of Rochester Spring Twilight Meet. Quillan Shimp took the podium, finishing first place in the 400m hurdles.

On April 25, Dods Hall on the campus of SUNY Fredonia was home to the annual Dunkirk-Fredonia Unified Basketball Game. In front of a raucous crowd, the two teams battled it out for four quarters.

Devils win two at The Wig

The Fredonia State baseball team extended its win streak to four games with 10-4 and 5-4 wins over visiting Hilbert College on Monday. Christian Pagano connected for a two-run homerun in Game 1, his third in as many games. Alex Gannon added a two-run blast of his own in the opener.
