Trailing at intermission, the Fredonia State women's basketball team used another strong finish outscoring Alfred by 21 points in the second half to down the Saxons, 71-54, and improve to 6-1, on Dec. 5.
In the SUNYAC-opening contest, the Fredonia State men's basketball team took down SUNY Buffalo State University, 69-59, on Saturday. Keenan Roberts Jr. keyed the offense with 22 points, including 3-4 shooting from long range, and going 7-12 from the line.
As is usually the case, local SUNYAC rivals Fredonia State and SUNY Buffalo State University played a tight game until the Devils pulled away late for a 12-point, 70-58 victory at Buff State on Saturday. Fredonia State freshman Grace Alexander put up 23 points in the victory.
Xavier Fortin scored 48 seconds into overtime to give the Fredonia State men's hockey team a 4-3 victory at Brockport. Fortin, Ryan Bailey, and David Sudbrink were on the ice during the three-on-three. It was the first career goal for Fortin, a freshman defenseman.
Katie Sellers (Glenmont/Bethlehem H.S.), was named to the United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-Region on Nov. 28. Sellers, a junior forward, led the Devils with nine goals -- ranking fourth in the SUNYAC -- and 20 points. She added a pair of assists.
The Fredonia State women's basketball team let Keuka hang around a little while before exploding for 31 points in the third quarter, cruising to an 84-65 victory at the Main BBQ Tipoff Tournament hosted by Brockport. The Devil are now 4-0.
Joshua Belgrave (Plattsburgh), Charles-Anthony Barbeau (Fredonia) and Tio D'Addario (Plattsburgh) have been picked as the SUNYAC Men's Ice Hockey Player, Goaltender and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
The Fredonia State basketball team exploded for 112 points in a 112-97 victory over visiting Allegheny College on Nov. 8. The season-opener victory saw the Devils record the second-most points in program history, only bested by the 120 the put up on Hilbert back in 2003.
Senior Katie Sellers was named First Team All-SUNYAC and senior Jordan Barrett and freshman Gabby Irwin were named Second Team following the Fredonia State women's soccer season this fall. Irwin also took home the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year award as the conference's top freshman.
The Fredonia State women's basketball team would cruise in its season opener at home against Hilbert, 62-48. The Devils would lock in on the defensive end all game, forcing Hilbert into 25 turnovers while adding 16 steals.
