Devils achieve academic excellence

The Fredonia State Athletic Department achieved a 3.22 GPA across its 17 sports this past semester. For the year, the teams produced a 3.21 GPA. The men's hockey team led the way with a 3.64 average for the academic year, and a 3.70 spring semester GPA.

Six members of the Fredonia State hockey team have have been named 2023-24 Krampade/American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American Scholars.

Wandell named First Team All-SUNYAC

Junior Allie Wandell was selected First Team All-SUNYAC by a vote of conference coaches on May 14. The shortstop from Newark Valley High School was the most consistent player for the Devils all season.

Cara Pellechia and Christian Pagano were named the Female and Male Athletes of the Year at the annual Freddys Banquet on May 7.

Relay sets school mark

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cameron Sample, Jordan Lockett, Jacob Winn, and Nick Marsowicz set a new Fredonia State outdoor record, finishing the race in 42.19 seconds. It was a regional-qualifying time, and .17 seconds behind the first-place Cortland team.

Pellechia earns fourth SUNYAC title

For the fourth time in four tries, pole vaulter Cara Pellechia can call herself a SUNYAC Champion. Pellechia cleared 3.50m to take the outdoor title at the SUNYAC Meet on Friday.

Riding the steady right arm of senior Emily Chelius, the Fredonia State softball team claimed a 6-2 win in Game 1 of its doubleheader at Buffalo State and qualified for the SUNYAC Tournament.

The Fredonia State men's track and field team had its final tune-up before the SUNYAC meet, taking part in the University of Rochester Spring Twilight Meet. Quillan Shimp took the podium, finishing first place in the 400m hurdles.

Unified game a smashing success

On April 25, Dods Hall on the campus of SUNY Fredonia was home to the annual Dunkirk-Fredonia Unified Basketball Game. In front of a raucous crowd, the two teams battled it out for four quarters.

The Fredonia State baseball team extended its win streak to four games with 10-4 and 5-4 wins over visiting Hilbert College on Monday. Christian Pagano connected for a two-run homerun in Game 1, his third in as many games. Alex Gannon added a two-run blast of his own in the opener.
